Considering that I’m writing this around the end of February, I feel it’s definitely lost all semblance of a “New Year’s” goal review… But, I’m going to post it anyway! ^-^ Not having enough time to get it out in January though, does feel a bit ominous. haha
The truth is I’ve just been very busy with a new job. Yay! I quit my old job, the one that was slowly killing me, in June last year. Or rather, I was kinda forced to quit because I started getting really dizzy at work. Felt like my body giving me a sign that we were DONE. heh I had about a month of basically doing nothing but sleeping, but I feel a lot better now!
With my new job, I’ve switched from food service/retail to office assistant. No more fighting for nights and weekends! ^-^ There are, however, a lot of new things to learn. It’s a completely new knowledge base and I really knew nothing I needed to when I first started. I feel like I’m doing pretty well so far, but it does take a ton of energy. Worth it.
Despite all of this, I have been working steadily on my writing! ^-^ One of the best things about 2018 was definitely the writing group that I joined. I’ve learned so much, and made some friends as well. I definitely plan to keep going.
Whew, that was a bit more a rambling over-view than normal! So, let’s see how I did with my goals from last year…
Goal 1. Write at least two short stories – Sadly no. I did finish “Angel Wings” (soon to have a new title more in keeping with a sci-fi theme) Honestly, I’m proud to have accomplished that! ^-^
Goal 2. Write a story to send to Sword & Sorceress – Definitely did not do this. However I do have some outlines for a couple of stories that will be a great fit when I write them. Small steps I guess.
Goal 3. Send out more than one story to magazines and such – Nope. I did end up bringing in all of my current stories in to Writer’s Group and got great feedback. I plan to edit them and hopefully send them back out to new markets.
Goal 4. Find a home for my unsold stories – Nope again. But I’ll give myself half points for the reasons above. ^-^
Goal 5. Post some shorts/flash fiction on the blog – I did post one! Huzzah!
Goal 6. Do actual work on at least one novella-length story – And we are back to no…
Goal 7. Keep the blog going! – I can’t rightfully say that I’ve done this. Only two posts for all of last year. I actually feel like I need to re-evaluate the blog, especially when I post a lot on Twitter these days.
Goal 8. Reformat and rearrange the blog – I did do this! ^-^ Links for stories/poems now go to the original blog post, instead of having their own pages. I also rearranged some of the categories, so it should be a little easier to get around.
Goal 9. Read at least HALF of my current unread books – I don’t think I did this? I believe I’m at 30 of the original 75 list. But I have done a pretty good job of keeping the list from growing! Mostly by barely buying new books *biggest and saddest of eyes* and reading those ASAP when I do get them.
Goal 10. Go to some marches, get involved, and be a good White Mage out there – Still haven’t made it to a march. Been doing my best with awareness, donations, ect. I definitely still have a lot to learn and do, but hopefully I was a good White Mage last year. ^-^
Goal 11. Go to more writing events and meet lots of authors – I have done a bit of this! And I’ve kept up with Writer’s Group all year, so now I feel pretty comfortable with everyone. It’s a nice feeling.
Goal 12. Get a new job – As evidenced in the long ramble before this list… definitely did this!! ^-^ More money, with less physical/mental/emotional brain drain. Whoop! Bonus that my new boss seems to like and respect me. We’ll see how it goes. ❤
Goals for 2019:
-Edit all the things
-Send out all the things
-Work on a story for Sword & Sorceress
-Work on a novella
-Re-evaluate the blog, and maybe post more
-Read the first 50 on my TBR list
-Have fun at ECCC
-Try to go to a conference
-Stay involved, be a good White Mage
Keeping things a little less specific this year, since I still feel like I’m recovering. Think I missed over half of my goals for last year? But honestly, that’s life sometimes, isn’t it? Things are a bit crazy everywhere right now, so I feel that, comparatively, I had a pretty good 2018. ^-^ I’m still moving forward, at least. That’s the most important thing.
I won’t wish you Happy New Year, all the way out here in February… XD But, I will wish you all the best possible 2019! Let’s all keep moving forward.
